Can Wisdom Tooth Pain Cause Ear Pain Or Sore Throats?

Published on: 26 February, 2020

Wisdom teeth are often a big cause of pain for people all over the world. When you see yours appearing, it’s good to get checked quickly if these are coming through as they should.

These teeth don’t sprout through until a person is a young adult and generally appear before the age of 25 years old. Feeling pain from these teeth appearing is perfectly normal – but exactly how much pain is normal?

The reason people often experience pain when these teeth start showing up is overcrowding in the mouth. If this is the case, you may need your wisdom teeth removed. On the other hand, if you do have enough space in your mouth for the teeth to come through, you shouldn’t experience too much pain. You also won’t need the wisdom teeth removed which is a great bonus!

Most people do experience overcrowding and if it is particularly bad, your wisdom teeth can actually be blocked from coming through. If the tooth is not rapidly removed, you may experience the following:

  • Sore ears
  • Aching jaw
  • Tenderness
  • Swollen gums

So, yes wisdom teeth can cause earaches. But what about sore throats?

If the problem causing tooth is not quickly removed, bacteria can build up in this area. This is because it may be hard to reach the brush that way or it may be too painful to brush and floss thoroughly. In this case, you could end up with an infection in that area.  This is when you may end up with symptoms such as a sore throat, fever or swollen lymph glands.

Yes, you can experience earache when getting your wisdom teeth coming through. Be especially careful if you get a sore throat as this could be a sign of infection. In this case, search ‘dentist near me’ as soon as you can to find one near you and get your wisdom teeth checked out.
